The college
A provincial institution in the Lakhimpur district of Assam, built to serve a rural and tribal region and to keep higher education within the reach of its people.
Kherajkhat College came into being in 1982, when access to higher education in this part of the Brahmaputra valley was limited and often meant travelling far from home. The founding idea was straightforward: to impart sound teaching, to encourage a scientific temper, and to reach students who had long been at the margins of the education system.
The college stands in the historic Kherajkhat Mouza, the birthplace of the great Vaishnavite saint Sri Sri Madhabdev. The surrounding area is rural and largely tribal, and the college has been a steady presence in the spread of higher education here, helping to shape a skilled workforce for the wider society.
It is permanently affiliated to Dibrugarh University, and it is listed under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. In 2017 the college was accredited by the UGC NAAC, and it continues to hold a place among the province's colleges of Assam.
