The academic rules, the admission procedure and the internal assessment scheme that apply to students of the college.

Academic rules and regulations

The academic rules for the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programmes in the semester system are administered through the Dibrugarh University academic calendar. The points below set out the working rules of the college.

  1. The programmes run under the semester system, with the academic calendar of Dibrugarh University governing the schedule.
  2. College hours are from 9:00 in the morning to 3:15 in the afternoon, Monday to Saturday.
  3. The college uniform is compulsory. Boys wear a white shirt, black trousers, black shoes and a navy blue sweater or blazer. Girls wear a white kurta, sky blue trousers and a dupatta, with a navy blue sweater or blazer.
  4. A hanging type identity card with a colour photograph is issued to every student and must be worn on all weekdays.
  5. A student must attend at least 75 per cent of the classes held. A student who falls short will not be allowed to appear in the final examination of the subject concerned.
  6. Internal examinations are conducted by the college and include sessional examinations, departmental tests, unit tests and assignments. Seminars and group discussions are conducted by the departments, and a student's participation counts towards internal assessment.

Discipline

The college lays great emphasis on discipline and character building, and students are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct. The following rules apply.

  1. Students must reach the college at least fifteen minutes before the first class, in full uniform and with the identity card.
  2. All forms of ragging are prohibited on the campus. Strong disciplinary action may be taken against anyone found involved, directly or indirectly.
  3. Students should not keep costly items such as mobile phones or money with them. The college is not responsible for any loss or damage.
  4. Bringing a mobile phone for use inside the classroom is strictly prohibited.
  5. A student who rides a two wheeler to the campus must hold a driving licence and wear a helmet.

An important undertaking

A student admitted to the college must abide by all rules and regulations prescribed by the college authorities. Violation of rules, irregular attendance, discourtesy to teachers or staff, or the use of unfair means in an examination may make a student liable to disciplinary action, including expulsion from the college with immediate effect.

Admission procedure

  1. Application for admission to the first semester is made on the prescribed form issued by the college office.
  2. The completed application must reach the office on or before the notified date.
  3. Admission is made in order of merit and is governed by the college admission rules. The decision of the admission committee is final.
  4. The completed form must be accompanied by self attested copies of all testimonials stated in the form.
  5. Candidates must produce the original copies of all testimonials at the time of admission.
  6. Reservation is maintained for SC, ST and OBC candidates as per the rules of the Government of Assam.
  7. A provisional merit list is prepared and published two days before the scheduled admission date.
  8. The decision of the Principal on any dispute in an admission related matter is final.
  9. Candidates with a study gap of more than three years are not eligible for admission.

Admission in brief

Internal assessment in the semester system

Internal assessment carries twenty marks in each course and is built from the following components.

  1. Sessional examination one, written, contributing forty per cent of the internal assessment marks.
  2. Sessional examination two, written, contributing forty per cent.
  3. Seminar or group discussion, contributing twenty per cent.

Each sessional examination is conducted by the department concerned, which fixes the date in keeping with the university academic calendar. Answers are written on scripts provided and authenticated by the college.

  1. After evaluation, answer scripts are shown to the students and corrections made where necessary. The scripts are then collected back.
  2. There is no provision for repeat or betterment in a sessional examination. If a student misses a sessional examination for unavoidable reasons, the department may allow a separate examination. Marks already secured in internal assessment are carried over to the next legitimate chance.
  3. A student who fails to appear in internal assessment will not be eligible for the end semester examination of the course concerned. The college notifies this before examination forms are filled up.

On fair practice

If a student is involved in any unethical or unfair means that violates the environment or the dignity of the college, the authority has the right to expel the student at any stage of the course.
